My Story
As a young child, I imagined worlds with castles, princesses, and princes who lived happily ever after. At the age of ten, I wrote and illustrated, in crayon, my first book titled, “The Castle.” At the age of twelve, I began sculpting in clay and produced a small bust of “Darth Vader.”
My love of creating continued into my early twenties when I took my only art class, “Water Color Painting for Beginners,” and participated in my first art show, winning first place for a clay sculpture titled “Beat-up Sneaker.”
Inspired by the books I had read to my twins at bedtime⏤In 2003 and 2007, I wrote, illustrated, and published the first two middle-grade chapter books in a series about twin sisters who are witches.
Years later, when COVID hit, I once again picked up my paintbrush. Inspired by post-impressionist artists Georges Seurat, Vincent Van Gogh, and Neo-impressionist artist Paul Signac, I decided to try my hand at pointillism. Not only did I love painting with dots, but for the first time in my life, I felt like I truly belonged to this creative process and it to me.
Artist Statement
I’ve been an artist since the age of six. My medium was crayons, and my canvas was a coloring book.
Color is what I love most in other artists’ and my own works because it excites me and gives me a sense of connection to all that is good and positive in life.
I also love painting with dots or pointillism. Along with my emerging creative style, which I call modern pointillism, the marriage between color and pointillism has allowed me to create paintings that have movement, dimension, and colors that change in intensity and mood with lighting. I find these attributes to be not only exciting but kind of magical.
In terms of how I feel about being an artist, it isn’t just what I do⏤but who I am. When I’m not creating, I don’t feel whole, and when a painting or other creative venture is finished, I feel a massive sense of accomplishment, and I look forward to sharing that piece of myself with others. When their faces light up and they tell me they love my work, I know I’ve done my job.
